International Young Eagles Day
|
Saturday, June 14, 2008
|
Thousands of young people will take to the
sky on Saturday, June 14, as EAA volunteers continue an outstanding
aviation tradition - International Young Eagles Day. The annual event
brings together kids and pilots as part of the EAA Young Eagles program,
the largest youth aviation education program ever created, which has
flown more than 1.3 million young people free of charge since its
inception in July 1992.
More than 40,000 pilots have volunteered
to support the program, including current program chairman Harrison
Ford. The well-known aviator and actor has personally flown more than
280 Young Eagles and is an outspoken advocate for the program.
This year, Young Eagles are also
encouraged to explore the website www.youngeagles.org
designed especially for them. Along with the World's Largest Logbook,
the Young Eagles website is filled with interactive activities, games,
aviation information and much more to support aviation interest among
young people.
Once again there will be an International
Young Eagles Day rally at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh on June
14. Free airplane flights for children ages 8-18 will originate at Orion
flight Service. Pre-registration is required. Contact EAA Young Eagles
office at 920-426-4831 or yeagles@eaa.org.

This
exciting annual event combines two classic examples of American
engineering. It pairs P-51 Mustang Warbirds from WWII with a wide
selection of Ford Mustang cars. (The event is also open to all other
Ford-powered vehicles.)
The event takes place on the grounds of
the world-famous EAA
AirVenture Museum, which displays a collection of more than 140
immaculate aircraft, including the world's oldest surviving P-51
Mustang. Throughout the day, rides will be available in a variety of
vintage airplanes from the Museum's acclaimed Pioneer
Airport facility.
Outstanding cars will receive trophies
and, on a space-available basis, all cars have the chance to 'pony up'
to a P-51 for a picture. Event registration is $20, which includes
Museum admission for all vehicle occupants. If you would like to come
and see the show, spectator admission is included in regular Museum
admission.
Pre-register through our secure
online registration to reserve your spot!
