Skiplanes To Try Again This Weekend

January 25, 2005 - Last weekend’s snowstorm brought more than enough of the needed white stuff for the annual EAA Skiplane Fly-in, but it also created unfavorable flying conditions that prevented aircraft from participating. So organizers have decided to give it another go this Saturday, January 29, at the EAA AirVenture Museum’s Pioneer Airport in Oshkosh.

EAA Flight Operations reports that 38 pilots have pre-registered for the event. The majority of ski planes will arrive (weather and runway conditions permitting) during mid-morning Saturday and will stay until mid-afternoon. If conditions allow, there will be flying demonstrations and other events throughout the day. In case that weather or snow conditions do not permit aircraft arrivals, other activities at Pioneer Airport will continue as planned, including complimentary chili and soup served from 10:30 a.m. until it is gone.
Skiplane pilots wishing to join the fly-in need to pre-register and receive an arrival briefing by contacting Sean Elliott, selliott@eaa.org, or 920/426-4886. For those who wish to fly-in and land at Wittman Regional Airport, a shuttle service will run to and from Orion and Basler FBOs.
Those outside Oshkosh can view the fly-in through the EAA’s Pioneer Airport WebCam, accessible through the EAA AirVenture Museum website.

The ski plane fly-in is free of charge to the public. Signs will direct visitors to the ski plane area upon arrival to the museum. Regular admission rates apply for guests visiting the museum itself.
