Good Ol’ Days

August 16 & 17, 2008

EAA’s annual living history weekend, Good Ol’ Days, was recently held at Pioneer Airport. Visitors were able to meet and mingle with volunteers portraying, Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Walter Beech and Amelia Earhart. Other activities included hand propping, a drawing for a ride in the Spirit of St. Louis, a pie eating contest and the many games and crafts available in the Family Activity Hangar. Beautiful weather conditions allowed all of the vintage planes to fly frequently throughout the two-day event.

Planes, Manes and Automobiles

July 5, 2008

This exciting annual event combined two classic examples of American engineering. It pairs P-51 Mustang Warbirds from WWII with a wide selection of Ford Mustang cars. Outstanding cars received trophies and, on a space-available basis, all cars had the chance to 'pony up' to a P-51 for a picture. A fly-by with a pair of P-51 Mustangs was one of highlights of the day.

Wings on Strings- Kite Festival

June 21, 2008

The EAA's sixth annual Wings on Strings Kite Festival was blessed with great breezes and enthusiastic crowds. Giant kites such as the octopus flew to the delight of the crowd. The “Kid’s Mad Dash" filled the skies above EAA's Pioneer Airport with a hundred free kites donated by Gift of Wings, one of the event co sponsors. The Chicago Fire kite team that has been together since 1986 performed once again this year, amazing the crowd with their spectacular feats.
